Thinking of booking a tattoo?

Whether you’re daydreaming about your first piece or planning something new to add to your collection, it’s worth taking a little time to think through your idea before reaching out to your artist (hi, that might be me!).

Since I create all my designs, the more I know about your vision, the better I can bring it to life in a way that feels just right to the both of us. Here is my rundown, similar to my new consult form, of things both your artist would probably like to know (I for one, would) and you should probably consider ahead of time to help ensure if you are a thinker like me you will love your tattoo forever.

What Style Feels Right?

This is a good place to start. Think about:

  • What kind of tattoo style are you drawn to? (Bold and dark? Soft and delicate?)

  • Does it match the style of tattoos you already have—or the ones you want in the future?

  • Are you imagining this as a stand-alone piece, or are you building toward a more heavily tattooed look?

its important to not only find an artist who does good work, and work you like, but also and artist who does a good job doing the style of tattoo you are looking for on your own body.

( just think, the world's best traditional tattoo artist with the funkiest style probably will not pull off your dainty fine line idea the way you imagine. Just because they are good, does not make them the right fit.)

Things to consider:

  • Is there a point where tattoos feel too dark to you? or is that exactly what you love about them.

  • Are you into having colored tattooed? what kind of color?

  • what kind of shading do you like? if any. (you don’t need to know the words, pictures work totally fine)

There’s no wrong answer—it’s just about what feels good to you. this is important to think about and vocalize because nothing would be more disappointing and awkward than acknowledging you only want a line work tattoo once the bold colored shading is done…

lets avoid that by communicating well back and forth.

If you already have tattoos nearby, or you’re planning to add more in the future, that’s great to mention too. It helps with:

  • Flow and balance

  • Choosing the right size and shape

  • Making sure everything plays nicely together

I draw all of my own designs from scratch—no copying. I try my best to make everything custom to you.

You can check out my style on Instagram @bonesnbugstattoos or right here on my website. If you like what you see, you’re probably in the right place.

I do all of my consults online, and I love getting as much info as you feel like sharing. The more you tell me, the more personal and thoughtful your design can be.

Ask Yourself Before Booking:

  • What overall style do I like?

  • Do I want something dark and bold, or more soft and subtle?

  • Do I have inspo pics? What exactly do I like in my inspo pics?

  • Can I draw a little sketch to help explain it?

  • Will this be part of a bigger collection of tattoos?

That’s it! Nothing too intense. Just some helpful thoughts to guide you in the right direction. If you can answer these, you have a solid enough idea, if you have more too add, that’s even better!
